Welcome to Stoney Stanton Action Group

Formed by residents of Stoney Stanton, the action group aims to stand-up for our village.

Two huge proposed developments are threatening
our village and local environment

1/ The Hinckley National Rail Freight Interchange (HNRFI)

2/ A housing development on ‘Land West of Stoney Stanton’

Neither are a done deal!

Both these proposals have to undergo formal consultation stages* – so there’s still time for us all to make our voices heard and STOP the over-development of our village and countryside.

1. HNRFI (Hinckley National Rail Freight)

On the 13 April 2023, The Planning Inspectorate confirmed the application submitted by Tritax to develop the HNRFI has been accepted to proceed to examination – see more about this here and what it means for us at this stage.

Residents had until 23rd June to have their say and register as an Interested Party with the Planning Inspectorate. Anyone who is accepted as an Interested Party will be kept updated with the next stages of the process.

You can read about the proposals here: https://infrastructure.planninginspectorate.gov.uk/projects/east-midlands/hinckley-national-rail-freight-interchange/?ipcsection=overview

This development is for a strategic rail freight interchange including an enormous warehousing complex, a rail port and lorry park.   The Rail Freight terminal would be sited next to Burbage Common up to Junction 2 of the M69.

This will require a dedicated road access directly from J2 of the M69, a new highway link between J2 of M69 and B4668/A47 Leicester Road, highway works including the provision of south facing slips (northbound exit/southbound entry) onto the M69 at J2, landscaping and footpath and cycle links. The site lies across both Blaby District Council and Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council.

For full details and links to additional information – see our Rail Freight page.

2. Land West of Stoney Stanton (LWSS) housing development

This could lead to over 6,000 new houses / a new village being built just outside Stoney Stanton and up to the M69.

A consortium is promoting hundreds of acres of farmland in and around Stoney Stanton for this development. So far there has been no clear justification for more housing or even a new village to be development in this location.
There has been little or no impact assessment on how it would affect our village – but, it will without doubt increase pollution, noise and traffic levels around the village. In addition we will lose acres of important green space and separation.

Blaby District Council will have to decide, through its Local Planing process and series of consultations, whether the site should be allocated for development.

For full details and current position – see our LWSS page
